What is SleepTalk™ for Children ?

The Goulding SleepTalk for Children is a methodology for building up your child’s self esteem that is exceedingly simple for parents to learn and use with benefits that have often been described as “marvellous”.

The process is about developing a child’s emotional resilience, the mind’s firewall, which protects against negative suggestions; much like a firewall on a computer protects it from outside interference and damage.

The concept was originally created by hypnotherapist and psycho-nutrition educator Joane Goulding to aid her own daughter Michelle who was diagnosed with cerebral palsy and dyspraxia. The SleepTalk for Children process assisted Michelle to develop into adulthood feeling strong and loved with a positive “I’m OK” attitude which has remained with her throughout and well beyond her childhood years.

In addition, learned helplessness occurs with children in almost any family, and suggestions accepted as truth become part of the belief system of their subconscious minds. Younger children are especially vulnerable, accepting negative suggestions with the same energy as positive ones. If your child’s belief structure is one based largely on fear or lack of confidence, a feeling of rejection or inadequacy, the ensuing decisions made by their conscious mind will of course reflect those beliefs.

Over the past thirty years the concept has been further refined and developed into a successful methodology that has helped numerous families to create empowering relationships within the home environment and given hundreds of children the most precious gift of self love and self esteem.

Although originally created to assist a child with “special needs”, SleepTalk for Children is for any child so whether your child is “gifted”, “normal” or in need of special help, the benefits of the SleepTalk™ process are appropriate and available for all children. As a keen user of the methodology with her own child, Joane  recommends the process to all families unreservedly. At Metzhypnosis, we are certified Goulding SleepTalk for Children Consultants and we would be happy to assist you in learning to use this valuable technique.

SleepTalk™ is a sensible practical and easy-to-follow method of communication important messages to the subconscious mind. This process should be used by all parents, educators and health professionals and the practice adopted in the management of all disorders in which the mind plays a significant role.

Professor Ian Brighthope, MBBS, Dip Ag Sci, FACNEM, FASEM, MAIAST

By hearing enough examples of positive and effective thoughts, delivered by a person with whom the child enjoys a close and loving relationship, the child can eventually discard negative feelings and self-defeating statements and replace them with powerful and useful ones. In this sense SleepTalk™ shares many parallels with a well recognised psychological I therapeutic approach known as self-instruction or self-verbalisation.

I have used the Goulding SleepTalk™ process for over twenty years. This is not a therapy and does not involve taking medications ” just a commonsense approach to parenting.
